Small Hobbyist Beekeeper in Derbyshire
Kyle, is an environmentally friendly and ethical small scale beekeeper from Derbyshire! We have raw honey, from the bees he keeps on an allotment in Chesterfield and also from another site on the edge of the peak district.
Kyle took up beekeeping so that he could have his own supply of honey to help his hay fever which, I’m pleased to say, worked for him! It is also a calm and relaxing hobby to get away from his busy professional job.
His bees are tucked away right at the back of an allotment which is also surrounded by a woodland and many country fields on the allotment site; the other site is surrounded by many wildflower meadows.
Kyle has been keeping bees for 5 years and is slowly expanding.
If the queen bee dies in a honeybee hive the workers can create a new queen bee. They do this by selecting a young larva and by feeding it special food called ‘royal jelly’ the larva will develop into a fertile queen.
